Look around you. Do you know any family who hasn't been touched by cancer?
Today, almost everyone knows someone with cancer - a family member, friend, coworker, neighbor ... maybe even yourself. Often, though, people don't know what to say to someone with cancer, what will be helpful, what a person's really going through who's received a diagnosis. They don't really understand what cancer is, the causes, the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual battles a person undergoes nor what is needed to impart hope and encouragement.
Training is available through Our Journey of Hope, the spiritual outreach program of Cancer Treatment Centers of America®. Participants will learn how to effectively provide practical support to cancer patients and their families, including:
- The importance of faith to health and of reaching out to cancer patients and their families
- What cancer is and isn't
- Spiritual preparation and dos and don'ts of hospital visitation
- Special needs of cancer patients and creative ways to minister
- Prevention information
- Practical ministry and communication exercises
This activity has been awarded 7.0 contact hours of continuing education by the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Approver Unit. ONS is accredited as an approver of continuing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Centerâs Commission on Accreditation. These hours are free to RNs and LPNs who attend this cancer ministry training.
