Darnetta Jones - Founder (1960 - 2003) was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 36. Inspite of her condition, cancer could not stop Darnetta's dreams and aspirations in pursuing her mission in helping others diagnosed with this disease.
A devoted mother of three children, Darnetta had a genuine passion for helping others in need. After being diagnosed with cancer, it came as no surprise that she would want to make a difference in the cancer community. She started a non-profit organization for individuals undergoing treatment, with a mission to help those who are less fortunate.
WAWELA has been in operation since 2003. Our goal is to carry on Darnetta's mission and to raise awareness of cancer and the long term effects if gone untreated. We provide assisance to qualified applicants with temporary financial assistance to help pay mortgage/rent, utilities, transportation, and prescriptions.
WAWELA is just another link in the chain fighting against cancer. Collectively we can build a strong fence in putting a silence to cancer.
